Shipping Lithium Batteries & Hazardous Materials
Our goal is to make sure your packages arrive safely and without delay. Because items containing lithium batteries are classified as Hazardous Materials (Dangerous Goods) by carriers, they require special care.
To help you navigate these regulations, we’ve outlined our process and the steps we take to protect your shipments.
Why do battery shipments take a little longer?
While we normally aim for a one-day turnaround, battery shipments are handled with extra care to ensure they meet regulations.
Taking this extra time helps prevents:
- Shipment Confiscation:
- Preventing couriers from seizing items.
- Postage Loss:
- Avoiding "Return to Sender" scenarios where postage and purchase costs cannot be refunded.
How We Identify & Handle Your Items
Classifying Your Shipment
We identify the specific category of the battery. We generally look for these four types:
- Equipment-Linked (UN3091/UN3481):
- Batteries inside or packed with a device (like a laptop or phone). These are generally easier to ship!
- Stand-alone (UN3090/UN3480):
- Loose batteries or power banks. These have stricter regulations.
When a "Dangerous Goods Form" is Required
If a shipment contains a high volume of batteries, it may cross into "Regulatory Compliance" territory requiring a Dangerous Goods Form. Because we are a re-shipper and not the original manufacturer, we cannot sign these documents on your behalf.
If your shipment reaches this threshold, we will contact you to offer different shipping options.
