Can I use your products to get SAM/CAGE codes?
Updates to SAM and CAGE requirements in 2024 have unfortunately made applying for SAM/CAGE challenging.
To verify the physical address, applicants need to provide a utility bill or another acceptable document:
TruLease can provide 2 types of utility bills — utility bill under the lessor's name and utility bill under your name through our custom utility service add-on. SAM/CAGE no longer accepts utility bills under the lessor's name. Furthermore, utility bill under your business name can only be water/gas/electric only. Our custom utility service can only provide you landline or Internet service.
Potential Solutions
Based on the Entity Validation chart and the presentation PDF, you might be able to address the issue indirectly by doing the following:
- Subscribe to the TruLease plan to rent a commercial office.
- Take a look at the other acceptable documents that you may be able to provide. A good one is the bank statement, which is an acceptable document for proof of address. You would then update your physical address with the bank to the new office address. Updating the address with the bank may trigger you to submit proof of address documents to the bank, but the requirements may be different from SAM and may allow you to use a landline or Internet bill.
- Then you wait for the new statement with the new address to be generated. You would then use this new bank statement as proof of your address to the SAM/CAGE.
There may be other types of documents besides a bank statement that you can use. SAM documents are not always clear on what may be acceptable for address proof, so we recommend that you reach out to SAM to confirm what is acceptable in advance.
